How to design your own phone case, step by step
Everything that separates a case you love from one that looks off once it's printed — in about five minutes of reading.
1. Pick one strong idea
The best cases have a single clear idea: one subject, one mood. “My dog” is a subject; “my dog asleep in a field of daisies, soft watercolor” is a case. Good starting points are your pet, a place you love, a hobby, a favourite colour pairing or a monogram.
2. Write it as subject + setting + style + colours
This formula consistently produces print-ready art: a red fox curled up in snow, storybook watercolor, rust and cream. Choose a Look in the studio (Cinematic, Minimal, Bold, Watercolor, Synthwave or Photo) to steer the style.
3. Think about the camera cutout
The top corner of the case is cut out for the camera. If your design has a face or text, ask for it in the lower half or centre so it isn't clipped. Patterns and landscapes wrap around the cutout naturally.
4. Using a photo
Open Use your own photo and add a sharp, well-lit picture where the subject fills the frame. Then describe how to restyle it: watercolor portrait, oil painting, pop art, travel poster. The AI keeps the subject recognisable and paints it at print resolution.
5. Adding a name or initials
Put the text in quotes and name the lettering style: the initials "C.B." in gold foil script. Keep it short — a first name or initials — and check the preview; a fresh variation is free if a letter is off.
6. Slim or tough?
| Slim / Snap — $24.99 | Tough — $34.99 | |
|---|---|---|
| Build | One-piece glossy shell | Polycarbonate shell + TPU liner |
| Best for | Pocket-friendly, light | Drop protection |
| Wireless charging | Yes | Yes |
7. Preview, compare, order
Generate a few variations and compare them on your exact model. When one clicks, order it — it's printed edge-to-edge, shipped free in the US, and the design is retired so it stays one-of-one.
FAQ
Do I need design software?
No. Everything happens in the browser: describe it, preview it, order it.
What resolution do I need for a photo?
A modern phone photo is plenty. Avoid screenshots or heavily compressed images.
